10 THINGS TO DO IN GOPESHWAR

Gopeshwar is located at a height of 1300 meters above sea level. It is famous for its temples and natural beauty enhanced by its wonderful weather. According to some, the name Gopeshwar is linked with Lord Krishna. .

Gopinath Temple

Gopinath temple is a famous shrine situated in Gopeshwar in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is visited by large number of devotees and pilgrims.

Chandika Devi Temple

This sacred shrine is also known as Ma Mahishasur Mardini as this is the spot where Chandika Devi killed Mahishasur. This temple is also considered as one the eight siddh peeths dedicated to Goddesses in Uttarakhand. Chandika Devi Temple was severely damaged by the earthquake of 1999, now it has been moderately rebuilt

Anusuya Devi Temple & Atri Muni Ashram

One of the most famous pilgrim places in Chamoli is the Anusuya Devi Temple, dedicated to goddess Sati. She was the wife of Atri Muni, a great sage and one of the Sapta Rishis (Sapta means seven and rishis mean sages in Sanskrit). It is said that Devi Anusuya fully dedicated to her husband. It is located 30 kms away from Chopta. It is located in the lap of Himalayas which attracts the pilgrims.

CHAMOLA NATH TEMPLE

The Chamola Nath Temple is situated near the Block Development of Chamoli district. There is a belief that the district is named after the name of Devta Chamolanath.

SAGGAR VILLAGE

The village is located around 5 km from Gopeshwar and is one of the important tourist destinations because it’s the starting point of Rudranath Trek. This trek is the toughest amongst the Panch Kedar.

Joshimath

Didihat is situated at an altitude of 1,725mts above sea level in Pithoragrh district of Uttarakhand state. Administratively Didihat is a tehsil and subdivision of the Pithoragarh district. This region was under the reign of Raika Malla kings of Sirakot. Later in 1449 AD this region came under the control of Chand rulers, after defeating Doti Kings of Nepal.

Govindghat

Govindghat is a town in Gopeshwar district, Uttarakhand, India, located at the confluence of the Alaknanda and Lakshman Ganga rivers. It lies around roughly 22 kilometres (14 mi) from Joshimath on NH58 at an altitude of 6,000 feet (1,800 metres). It is the roadhead on the way to Shree Badrinathji yatra – One of the important places of worship of Hindus and the starting point for trekking to Hemkund Sahib and Valley of Flowers.

Nanda Devi National Park

One of the most serene and tranquil of national parks in the country, the Nanda Devi National Park in Uttarakhand is a paradise for nature lovers and those who seek to immerse themselves in the beauty of nature.

Trishul peak

Trishul peak is famous for its skiing slopes and the Nanda Devi National Park. Roopkund lake, popularly known as the ‘Mystery lake’, situated on the foot of the peak is famous for the 600 skeletal remains of humans and horses found in the lake.There are a few peaks in the Garhwal and Kumaoni Himalayas that are as pretty and majestic as the Trishul Peak.

Vasuki Tal

Vasuki Tal is one of the numerous less frequented however charming vacationer spots in the state of Uttarakhand, located at a distance of around 8 kilometers from the religiously significant journey focus of Kedarnath. Remaining at a height of very nearly 4137 meters over the ocean level, the lake of Vasuki Tal is surrounded by the forcing and great Himalayan mountain ranges and offers a staggering perspective of the Chaukhamba peaks nearby..
