10 THINGS TO DO IN CHAAYA TAAL

An ideal gatewayto keep oneslf away from urban lifestyle, Chaaya Taal or Chayatal is a new found settlement in the Indian State of Sikkim. Chayatal is a small hamlet in the western part of Sikkim, India and 35 km from the well known tourist location Pelling. Chayatal is surrounded by lush forest, and blessed with the peaceful environment and embellished with the mountain peak in the backdrop, it turns out to be an attractive offbeat destinations.  Here are 10 things to do at chaaya taal.

Yuksom

Yuksom, the ancient capital of Sikkim, is known for its alluring landscapes and snow-capped mountains. Regarded as ‘Third Eye of Sikkim’, the town holds religious importance given the monasteries and rich history of Buddhism this place has.

The Pemayangtse Monastery

The Pemayangtse Monastery is a Buddhist monastery in Pemayangtse, near Pelling in the northeastern Indian state of Sikkim, located 110 km west of Gangtok. Planned, designed and founded by Lama Lhatsun Chempo in 1647, it is one of the oldest and premier monasteries of Sikkim, also the most famous in Sikkim

Sangachoeling Monastery

The Sanga Choeling Monastery, also spelt Sange Choeling Monastery, established in the 17th century by Lama Lhatsün Chempo, is one of the oldest monasteries in the Northeast Indian state of Sikkim

Kanchenjunga Falls

Kanchenjunga Falls is a perennial waterfall situated around an hour drive from Pelling towards Yuksom. It is believed that the pristine waterfall originates high up in the glaciers of Mount Kanchenjunga, the 3rd highest peak in the world. It gushes down from a height of 100 feet into a pool. Kanchenjunga falls was not known to people and remained untouched till the 90s. It only came into the limelight, when a local tour operator named Topjor Bhutia accidentally discovered it. Today this spot become one of the leading tourist spots in West Sikkim

Rabdentse Ruins

Rabdentse Ruins is the archeological site that tells Sikkim’s story of glory. Until 1814 A.D, it was the second capital of Sikkim, established by the Chogyal II. Later on, after the Nepalese invasion in the 18th century, the palace and the monastery complex was destructed and turned into ruins. The place is a must see for the history-enthusiasts who want to dig into the state’s past in between the spectacular view of Kanchenjunga peak and the gushing river flowing through the foothills.

Tashiding Monastery

The Tashiding Monastery is one of the oldest monasteries in Pelling. Including an exquisite area as it sits in the middle of Rathong chu and the Rangeet River, Tashiding Monastery is located in one of the holiest spots in Sikkim. The best of this place can be explored with a guide. Peace and isolation fill each edge of this monastery. You can trek your way up to this monastery. The annual Bhumchu festival is also celebrated here.

Rambi Waterfall

Rambi Waterfall is a beautiful cascade located on the way to Khechopalri and Yuksam. It is a grand regular setup brimming with excellence. The cascade is a vast one and is encased by rich greenery. Spending an hour at this area is an awesome method to have fun in Pelling. The pleasant setting makes for a superb photography.

Darap Cherry Village

Darap village is a quaint place located 8km from Pelling and is also a must-visit tourist attraction here. Inhabited majorly by Limboo Community, Darap Village is also home to Tamangs, Bhutias, Rais, Chettris and Lepchas. Nestled amidst the majestic Himalayan ranges, Darap village is the best place in Pelling to understand and mingle with the locals and indulge in some fun activities like churning butter or processing cheese with the villagers, playing with children or heading out for an extensive hike around the place.

Sewaro Rock Garden

Sewaro Rock Garden is a pretty picnic spot near Pelling that is a great place to take a break from your travel and relax. The garden comprises of streams, fountains, avenues, resting area rock structures that are well maintained. You can also enjoy a cup of your favourite beverage in the cafeteria inside this garden. Sewaro Rock Garden is a great place to spend some time with friends, family talking, clicking pictures or just enjoying the view. It is undoubtedly one of the best things to see in Pelling.

Kaluk

Kaluk is another fabulous beauty located at the foothills of West Sikkim. A must-visit place in your Pelling tour itinerary, Kaluk is a small village home to Nepalese and Marwari people who live here. If you wish to enjoy the solitude and quietude in Pelling to relax and rejuvenate, head to this quaint village and book a homestay. You can also interact with the locals here and indulge in some fun activities with them.
